António Guterres challenged to adopt a plant-based diet

Organisations launch a global climate emergency campaign

On 18 June 2021, dozens of organisations from all over the world launched a challenge to the UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, urging him to take a step towards adopting a plant-based diet.

The goal is to make the world population aware of the benefits of a plant-based diet, and its implication in fighting climate change.

This international campaign, entitled Plead for Planet, starts on the Sustainable Gastronomy Day — instituted by the UN in 2016 — with an open letter sent to Mr. António Guterres, signed by non-governmental organisations from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK, and the USA.

On the same day, a public petition is also launched. It can be signed by anyone, and its aim is to reach 30,000 signatures by 9 July 2021.
