Greenpeace International report about the impact of animal agriculture on the environment

Greenpeace International has conducted a study and has written a report about the huge impact of animal agriculture on the environment and mitigating the impact by switching to a vegetarian diet. The report is titled, Cool Farming: Climate Impacts of Agriculture and Mitigation Potential, and can be found in pdf format on

It is great that the largest environmental organization in the world has written such a detailed report on this issue, which is a very serious issue in terms of the massive impact that intensive farming has on climate change.

In addition, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has written a detailed report, Livestock’s Long Shadow –Environmental Issues and Options. The report shows how the livestock industry is immensely damaging to the environment. It can be found on the following webpage of the FAO Newsroom:

where there is an article titled, Livestock a major threat to environment: Remedies urgently needed.

Furthermore, the World Health Organization has also written a report highlighting the impact of meat eating on climate change. It is titled Food Security and Sustainable Development and can be found in pdf format on: http://www.euro.who.int/document/nut/E82161chapt3.pdf

However, it is time that all other environmental organizations also acknowledge this fact and take it seriously, and not continue to bury their heads in the sand. If other environmental organizations are, indeed, serious about tackling climate change, they will need to put this on their campaigning agenda. Climate change will continue to increase if intensive animal farming and meat production continues.
