Dear friends,
The FAO has recently warned that poor harvests are to be expected, leading to higher prices, greater food shortages and consequently more hunger in the world. As always in these cases, FAO avoids mentioning that this already difficult situation will be aggravated by the fact that large percentages of harvests are not distributed to needy people but instead are fed to animals which are then eaten by the rich.
This situation is immoral and unacceptable.
During the 2007 EVU talks under the motto 'THE VEGGIE ANSWER TO WORLD HUNGER' we want to discuss this problem and determine ways by which vegetarians everywhere can raise awareness, more effectively inform the public about the dire situation and call upon decision makers to take an interest in a gentle and compassionate lifestyle that does not exploit people and animals and helps nature to heal.
Please join us to develop a common strategy which will make the many benefits of vegetarianism clear, both generally and in this difficult context.
There is still plenty of time to send us your ideas and suggestions which will then be incorporated into the schedule and thus become a building block for the optimal program needed to make the event a success.
If you are interested to give a speech about world hunger and vegetarian ways to alleviate it, please let us know by e-mail.
Best regards
Renato Pichler
President
