1. EVU

The president Igor Bukovsky has resigned and Renato Pichler has taken over as acting President.
On behalf of the board I would like to thank Igor for many years of dedicated work for the EVU where he has always been there for us to give guidance and advice. His wise decisions have helped us across some rough patches. Fortunately, the cooperation is going to continue because Igor will now become EVU's past-president.

Renato Pichler will be the candidate for the President-post at the next AGM. This is his message:

"Dear friends, It is is with great pleasure that I have accepted the role as acting president after Igor Bukovsky resigned from the post because of a lack of time. Even though Igor has been extremely busy in the past, he always took part in important meetings and was very gifted in ironing out conflicts. I want to thank him for all the wonderful work he has invested in the EVU and look forward to our continued cooperation. As the President of the Swiss Union for Vegetarianism I am also quite busy but since I strongly believe that the EVU can only prosper at a solid international level, I shall give that aim high priority during my term of office.

I am quite aware of the fact that all national vegetarian organizations have their hands full in their respective countries but I would like to stress that we need joined efforts to make progress. That is why I ask you all to assist in EVU work. We need to give vegetarianism more clout in our own countries but also across Europe.
Every member organization will profit from a strong European Vegetarian Union and we really do need your help.

I am looking forward to a fruitful cooperation with all member- and partner organizations of the EVU.

Best regards
Renato Pichler"

Francisco Martin has resigned from the EVU Board but we are very pleased that he continues to work for certain EVU projects, like the Congress. Vegetarianism needs dedicated people like Francisco who have collected a lot of experience in the vegetarian and animal rights environment and have the diplomacy and linguistic talents to work across frontiers. Since Francisco is also a great writer, we are waiting for more articles and, who knows, even some books. Thanks for everything, Francisco, and good luck!

Here is the CV of Georgia Louise Blackwell, candidate for the post of Vice Hon.General Secretary:
I am 26 years old, of British Nationality, and hold a BSc (First Class Honours) in International Management
and Modern Languages (German) at Bath University. I work in Germany at the moment and speak German fluently.
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years and take great interest in all vegetarian issues. I was a member of the UK Vegetarian Society while I lived in England, and have been a member of the EVU since November 2002.
I joined the EVU web team, and have assisted in placing the press releases and German versions of the magazine on the internet site.

3. Website EVU

-We have finally found a new webmaster for our website which meanwhile attracted an impressive number of visitors and will be developed further. Here is the presentation of our new webmaster:
"My name is Alessandro Cattelan, I'm 27 and I live in Northeastern Italy. I'm both a university student and a teacher - I teach Italian, English and Spanish - and maybe, some day, I'll be a translator... that's what I hope at least!
I've been a vegan for six years and I've been working as a volunteer to spread vegetarianism since 1999, starting out as a translator for www.ivu.org (1999-2001). Since 2001 I've been working as a volunteer for the Italian Anti Vivisection league (LAV) and I'm currently responsible for the vegetarianism and anti-bullfights sectors."

6. Address changes

One last request: Mid-December letters went out to all members and partners. Unfortunately many came back because of invalid addresses. It is very difficult to find out where people moved to - so please do send us a short note if there are changes to your address details. Thanks.

If you have not done so, why not become member of the European Vegetarian Union now. It is so easy:
