USA: Big Meat stabs Meatless Mondays

2 August 2012

An uproar from the world of abattoirs followed USDA's recommendation, published in Greening Updates dated 23 July 2012: 'One simple way to reduce your environmental impact while dining at our cafeterias is to participate in the “Meatless Monday” initiative This international effort, as the name implies, encourages people not to eat meat on Mondays...'

The national Department for Agriculture had to retract the statement. Has one ever seen a clearer demonstration of who is calling the shots?

It will be interesting to find out how Mr. and Mrs. USA are going to react to this kind of coercion.
