TOP 2: Opening by the President
The president, Dr. Igor Bukovsky, is unable to attend the general
meeting because of difficult weather and road conditions. Hildegund
Scholvien welcomes the attendees on his behalf and chairs the
meeting. Dr. Hildegard Hoppe-Strobel takes the minutes.
TOP 3: Minutes of the last AGM (Prague 2000)
Since none of the attendees had been present at the meeting
in Prague, the minutes cannot be discussed and are accepted
unanimously.
TOP 4: Report by the secretary
A report by the secretary is not available.
TOP 5: Report by the treasurer
The treasurer Hildegund Scholvien reports about the financial
development of the EVU in the year 2000.A written report is
contained in the conference documents. As had been already done
in the year before, in the interest of more clarity all amounts
have been converted into EURO.
TOP 6: Report by the auditors
The report of the auditors is presented by the auditor Dr.
Hildegard Hoppe-Strobel. The bookkeeping is certified correct.
TOP 7: Discussion about the reports
Only the financial report can be discussed since other reports
are not available.
TOP 8: Elections
The office periods of the president Dr. Igor Bukovsky and the
treasurer Hildegund Scholvien ended in 2001. Both stand for
re-election.
Election of the president: Dr. Bukovsky is elected with 6 votes
and 1 abstention.
Election of the treasurer: Hildegund Scholvien is elected with
6 votes and 1 abstention.
Event though the office period of the secretary Sigrid De Leo
has not yet expired she is, because of an overload of work,
prepared to prematurely hand over her duties to a successor.
Herma Caelen is proposed as new secretary. Herma Caelen is elected
unanimously (with 7 yes-votes).
Election of a deputy secretary whose position is presently vacant.
Proposal by Vegi-Info Belgium: Renato Pichler. Voting: Renato
Pichler is unanimously elected. He has accepted.
TOP 9: Relationship EVU/IVU
A proposal has been received by Tina Fox (VSUK) to hold the
next general meeting of the EVU in Edinburgh on the occasion
of the International Vegetarian Congress. After a short discussion
this offer is unanimously accepted. At the moment the EVU is
just an ordinary member of the IVU but there might be possibilities
to intensify the relationship in Edinburgh.
TOP 10: Europ. Vegetarian Logo
The protection for all still pending European countries has
been requested and will shortly become effective. The first
royalties have been received by the EVU; the amounts are still
small but we hope for improvement.
TOP 11: Strategies for future work
This point cannot be discussed because the president is not
present and no written suggestions have been submitted because
of lack of time.
TOP 12: The Congress in Istanbul
Due to the fact that an email, received by the president on
27 December 2001, from the Turkish congress organizers could
not be procured in time for the meeting, no discussion about
this item was possible. Generally speaking, the attendees do
not consider it meaningful to hold yet another international
congress in the years 2002 and 2003, additionally to the congresses
already planned.
TOP 13: The congress in 2003 in Sweden
As far as the EVU congress in Sweden in 2003 is concerned,
the meeting gives the following recommendation: The Swedish
friends are to check whether they can organize a congress. The
final EVU decision will then be done by the EVU-board.
TOP 14: Future congresses
For the organization of the future congresses, a mixture of
lectures (only covering new scientific developments)and workshops
and exchanges of experience of the different national vegetarian
organisations are proposed. If at all feasible, also inexpensive
accommodation (youth hostel, camping etc.) should be provided
for participants. Just an idea: The
EVU congress 2007 could possibly take place in Germany, near
Berlin.
TOP 15: Motions
Two motions have been submitted:
1. By the Vegetarier-Bund Deutschlands : Binding regulations
are to be developed on how products with V-label, that are sold
across national borders, can be tested in a standardized fashion.
2. By the Schweizerischen Vereinigung für Vegetarismus:
The possibility is to be created that certain questions (elections)
can be decided upon also by mail and e-mail.
Both requests are postponed to the next general meeting when
they will be tabled for discussion.
TOP 16: Miscellaneous
There are no furthers points of discussion.
End of the meeting:
Hildegund Scholvien closes the meeting at 21.50 h
Fischbach, 5 January 2002
signed Hildegund Scholvien, Chairwoman of the meeting
signed Dr. Hildegard Hoppe-Strobel, minute-taker
"There is still strong in our society the belief that animals
and the
natural world have value only insofar as they can be converted
into
revenue. That nature is a commodity. And that the American dream
is one of unlimited consumption. There are many of us, on the
other hand, who believe that animals and the natural world have
value by virtue of being alive. That Nature is a community to
which we belong and to which we owe our lives. And that the
deeper American dream is one of unlimited compassion."
