Ulla has been a vegetarian since her youth and a vegan for more than 25 years. In 1976 she and her husband Stephan, together with Dee Bush-Bailey from England, founded 'The Swedish Vegan Society'.

Ulla has been president of the vegan society for more than 22 years. Last year Arne Wingquist took over but as Arne lives abroad most of the year, Ulla still works a lot for the society.
She is the mother of four children, all vegans from birth. Ulla is convinced that her choice to be a vegan is one of the best thing she could do, especially for her children.
The work for the Vegan Society is all done from the family's house which is situated in the picturesque small town Mariefred, (70 kilometres from the Swedish capital Stockholm). Ulla and her family have often welcomed foreign guests. In 1997 I had the pleasure to pass some wonderful relaxing summer days in Ulla's home after the 1400 km bicycle tour through Sweden.
The work for the Vegan Society is a part of the family's lifestyle. Ulla loves nature. In her garden she cultivates a great variety of vegetables and berries, which are used in the family«s kitchen. A small swimming-pool in the rear garden gives her the possibility to exercise during the warmer season .

Ulla is the editor of the Society's magazine 'Vegan'. She is responsible for vegan education, arranged by the society. Both in Sweden and abroad she is a popular speaker. Her favourite subjects are 'Vegan Diet' and 'Herbs'. Ulla undertook training as a nurse but she now works as a librarian and became a book critic on the subjects of food and health.
Ulla loves to be out in the nature, read books and practise Tai Chi and Ayurveda. She also likes to travel. Swimming is another of Ulla's favourite pastimes, as could be seen at the EVU-Congress, where she swam in the adjacent swimming area whenever there was any time.
Jesus, Albert Schweitzer, Mahatma Gandhi and Peter Singer are persons who have inspired Ulla in her work in the Vegan Society.
Last summer Ulla was elected board member of the EVU. She is also in the Swedish committee which will organise the EVU Congress in 2003. Lately Ulla has been asked by various people and by the Swedish authorities to write a book about her experience as vegan mother with four children. She has started to write the manuscript.
Her husband Stephan works at the castle "Gripsholm" in Mariefred, where Ulla celebrated her 50th birthday together with her family and her friends.
